Storytelling is the most basic and essential element of my work One picture can hold an entire story: character development, dramatic tension, mood, plot. My scenes force the viewer to ask what has come before, to contemplate what will come next. This framework encourages the viewer’s creativity to complete the story, allowing for a wide variety of interpretations and outcomes. Instead of a still moment to be appreciated just for its beauty or emotional tone, I create interactive paintings for stories to be told only after each viewer has told it to himself. In this new collection of paintings, I explore images of people waiting. Their clothing and attitudes are sometimes in harmony, sometimes in contrast to their environment, but relationships between the subjects and background are what interest me. They pass the time, lost in thoughts, but fail to notice how interesting their surroundings really are. The urban world, as I see it, is full of fascinating colors, textures, and imagery, both on our bodies and on our walls. Much of it is overlooked as we go from place to place lost in our own lives and dramas.
